Once a nursing home – now a training base

Jeruel House was bought in 1987 by Youth with a Mission and is now serving as a training base.

Each year several hundred young (and older) people attend our schools or seminars to receive training for their missionary activities.

We also host groups who run their own activities while using our facilities. Youth groups, leadership teams, families, singles … all are welcome as guests in our Jeruel house. In our quiet countryside there is a rich variety of options to spend your leisure time on.

Youth with a Mission Wiler - SwitzerlandAlthough in the countryside, our base is still very centrally located. The cities of Biel and Bern are both within easy reach (18km), and can be readily accessed by public transport, car, or even by bicycle. Lyss and the beautiful mediaeval town of Aarberg provide good facilities for almost all of your shopping – and both are very close by.

“Jeruel” – being taught by God

The name Jeruel, which was given to the facility when it started as a nursing home, comes from the biblical story about Jehoshaphat, who won a great victory over the Ammonites and the Moabites – not of his own doing, but by a miraculous intervention of God (2 Chronicles 20).

The place where this happened was the desert called Jeruel. The meaning of the name, though, is not that it is simply a desert. The name rather means being taught by God which is exactly what we want to be – we as staff on the base as well as the other people who are coming here.
